November/December Newsletter

Dear Students & Parents,

It's hard to believe the holiday season is upon us. We have many fun and exciting events planned so be sure and refer to the calendar of events.

On October 11th, four students from Gold Country Kuk Sool Won traveled to Houston, Texas, for the World Kuk Sool Championships. All four earned medals in their competitions with Ryan Mathias winning World Champion in his division.

I would like to congratulate Ranger and Nikki Turner on their promotion to first-degree black belt and to Ryan Kelly Robertshaw on her promotion to second-degree black belt. They have all worked very hard and persevered to attain this goal.

Please help Gold Country Kuk Sool Won be a good neighbor and not park in front of the hair salon or chiropractor's office. We are fortunate to have so much great parking; some of my friends in the bay area have students that must park three to four blocks away. Thank you for your help.

There will be black belt testing at Ready Springs School on Saturday, November 22nd, at 12:30 p.m. The public is invited. Note that there will be no regular classes that day.

My mother-in-law, Jeannie Bringolf, will be selling organic Johanson Ranch Satsuma Mandarin oranges. They will be available at the school by mid to late November.

There will be a special breaking clinic on Tuesday, December 2nd. You'll learn different techniques for breaking using hands and feet. This is a great introduction to breaking and we will also cover advanced breaking techniques as well. Sign up is required.

Back by popular demand, we will have our Kuk Sool holiday wish tables set up from December 1st through the 20th. There will be many exciting items for both you and your Kuk Sool student.

On Saturday, December 13th, we will be holding our 14th annual Kuk Sool Won Christmas Party and Awards Banquet at the Nevada County Horsemen's Club in Grass Valley. The evening starts with games and prizes for the kids, followed by a huge potluck dinner. Awards are given to students who have shown excellence in different areas such as etiquette, spirit and greatest improvement. One of my favorites is the Black Belt of the Year award, which is decided entirely by the black belts of Gold Country Kuk Sool Won. The evening also includes a raffle with great prizes, followed by music and dancing for the whole family. This is a wonderful family event and I hope you can attend.

There will be stripe and belt testing on Tuesday, December 16th, for those who are ready.

2009 will mark the 28th year I have been practicing Kuk Sool and the 15th year of Gold Country Kuk Sool Won. I would like you to know that I am very thankful to be able to have the career that I have, and to have so many wonderful students and families in my life.

Thank you and Kuk Sool,
Kwahn Jahng Nim Tony Reyna
