July/August Newsletter

Dear Students & Parents,

Classes are going well and everyone is training diligently. With summer here, it is important to remember to train consistently. It can be hard with other summer activities, but keep training on your list of priorities and you will see results.

During the warmer months from May 1st through September 1st, Kuk Sool T-shirts may be worn instead of the traditional top. T-shirts are in stock and available for purchase. The traditional top must be worn during testing, promotions, demonstrations and other special events.

I would like to congratulate Zach Rohde on his promotion to 1st degree black belt. Craig Lauer and Randall Yun were promoted to 3rd degree black belt. They have worked very hard to reach these levels.

We will be holding the second session of our Martial Arts Adventure Summer Day Camp on July 19th through the 23rd. We believe it is one of the most diverse and exciting day camps in Northern California. We only have a couple of spots left in session II, so act fast.

There will be an archery and knife throwing clinic on Saturday, August 7th at the Kuk Sool Outdoor Training Center. There will be two sessions. Session I will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. and session II will be from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The clinic is open to all ages and belt levels and is a fun introduction to archery and knife throwing. Cost is $20 per student. Note that there will be no regular classes that day.

We will be performing demonstrations at the Nevada County Fair on Friday, August 13th and Saturday, August 14th at 6:00 p.m. This will be our 16th year performing at the fair! We encourage all ages and belt levels to participate. During these two prime-time slots we have the opportunity to plant a positive seed of martial arts in our community and show that Kuk Sool is truly a family oriented martial art.

On Saturday, October 23rd, the Pacific Coast World Kuk Sool Won tournament will be held at Merritt College in Oakland, California. This is a fun filled family event. Students will be able to compete in forms, techniques, and sparring, plus weapons and breaking for advanced belts. You compete with students your own age and belt level. We will have special classes in preparation for this event. Students are encouraged to go to the tournament to learn and have fun. I hope you will make plans to attend.

Our annual spring outdoor promotion and picnic was a huge success with over 200 people in attendance. It was a beautiful day and we all had a blast.

June 2010 marked the 16th anniversary of Gold Country Kuk Sool Won. I want to thank all of you for your support and look forward to many years of fun and training.

Thank you and Kuk Sool,
Kwahn Jahng Nim Tony Reyna
